In keeping with my recent decision to take this blog less seriously, I’ve decided to participate in what is, essentially, a massive blogger-only chain letter called The Liebster Award. I got nominated by the amazing Harper of Harper Honey, and now I must do four things:
- List eleven facts about myself.
- Answer Harper’s eleven questions.

- Make up eleven new questions.

eleven facts about that girl
1. Oh goddamn it, I have no idea what to say. My new That Girl Magazine manifesto is basically that I’m going to stop pretending to know things that I don’t know. But now I’m thinking, maybe I don’t know anything at all, even basic facts about myself? So I guess fact number one is that I am Socrates, and I guess I’m wisest among the Greeks, because I know that I know nothing.
2. I took an existentialism class at summer camp when I was fifteen and it really shaped my worldview. Fifteen is a good age to encounter existentialism.
3. I was a really nerdy child. I went to existentialist summer camps. In order to get into this summer camp, I had to take the SATs when I was twelve. As a sidenote, if there are any other CTY kids out there reading my blog, leave a comment because I want to know all of you.
4. I didn’t learn to walk until I was eighteen months old. My pediatrician said the problem was that my mother never left me on the floor long enough for me to figure it out. I’d ask to be carried around and she’d carry me around. I think this was a good system and I don’t know why it stopped.
5. I do layout for Post- Magazine, an arts and lifestyle publication at Brown. I also did their web design, which you should check out because I’m really proud of it.
6. When I was five, I was in a parade (my dad is involved in local politics) and I spent the entire time bawling my eyes out. My understanding of parades had been that people were going to throw candy at me, because that was what always happened when I watched parades. Instead, no one threw candy at me. The people on the street had candy, and I did not. This was very confusing and upsetting for 5-year-old Clara.
7. Today I learned that there isn’t a single household cleaning product that can give you a chemical burn on contact. For some reason, I had believed this for 21 years. I thought that’s why people wore gloves when they cleaned. Because touching bleach would literally burn your skin.
8. I consider myself unimaginably lucky to go to Brown.
9. I signed a lease for an apartment today! It’s a one-bedroom basement situation with a really big closet. Come July, I’ll be living alone for the first time in my life. Eeeeeeeeeeee!
10. When I was living in Switzerland, I used to drink this stuff called “trojka green” that tasted exactly like gummy bears but was also 20% alcohol. If you are ever in Switzerland, you should really try it.
11. I have a miniature poodle at home. His name is Chili and he has severe trust issues.

What are your top 5 favorite movies, and why?
Mean Girls, because it’s a classic. Rent, because I like the songs a lot. Pitch Perfect, for similar reasons. Legally Blonde, because Elle Woods is something of a role model for me. And The Hunger Games, because the books were really good and the movies are, so far, living up to the hype as well.
Where do you like to go when you are upset or stressed out? What do you do there?
Honestly I usually just go home and take a nap. Napping usually seems like it will solve the problem, even though it doesn’t most of the time.
If you could live in either a comic book, a romcom, a musical, a crime show, a gothic novel, or a sci-fi series, which would you pick and why?
I would want to live in a romantic comedy, as long as I was the protagonist. That way I could be pretty and funny and flawed in some totally inconsequential way (oh no I’m clumsy teehee! I like shoes! I’m relatable now!), and I could have mild ups and downs with some guy who will end up totally head-over-heels in love with me over the span of two or three months.
In what ways do you hope your blog will grow or change?
Oh man, this is actually the hardest question you could have asked me. Damn it, Harper. I have no idea where I want this blog to go, or where I want to go with my life, or to what extent I will take That Girl Magazine with me.
You are on a mystery solving team, similar to the Scooby-Doo gang, with a combination of friends and celebrities. It’s you plus 3 other people and an animal side-kick of your choice. Who’s on your team?
Taylor Swift, Stephen Colbert, my boyfriend, and a corgi. Will we actually solve any mysteries? Probably not. But we could all hang out and have a nice time.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I’ll be 26. I’ll probably be living in DC, near where I grew up but far enough away that my parents don’t expect to see me that often. Hopefully I’ll make enough money that I won’t have to be on food stamps. That’s literally all I know.
Tell me about something from your childhood that you still keep (a toy, a book, etc.).
I have a doll named Charlotte. I used to sleep with her every night, and I don’t think I stopped bringing her to sleepovers and such until I was twelve. She’s really gross now, but she is my Charlotte and I will keep her forever.
Do you have any favorite charities or causes?
Am I a really bad person if I say no? I mean, I like charities in general. I like causes in general. I just don’t think I have a favorite. I’m known to rant about rape culture and body-shaming, so maybe those are my favorite causes, but I’m not sure it counts.
Do you stay organized? What are you best at staying on top of, and what are you least organize about?
LOL. Nope. I do not stay organized. I do not even start being organized. I have a planner (which I’m obsessed with), which helps somewhat, but honestly I would lose my nose if it weren’t attached to my face.
What time of the day or night do you have the most energy?
I have the most energy in the early afternoon and in the late evening and also in the few hours right after I take my ADHD medication. Coincidence, I’m sure.
Tell me 3 regrets you hope to die without.
Never having kids, never following my passions (whatever they may be), and not being there for someone who needed me. Those are all really cliche but I don’t even mind.
